Default page for News & Politics category should be "Most Viewed"
I posted this important suggestion on the new YouTube Help Forum, please visit this link and post a reply to show your support for this suggestion: Default page for News & Politics category should be "Most Viewed" The way it is set up now, videos in the News & Politics section are handicapped so this is really important if we want YouTube to be a fair platform for political speech. I plan to upload a video about this later today, in the Nonprofits & Activism category.

Default page for News & Politics category should be "Most Viewed"
Please change the default page for the News & Politics category back to the way it was, to the way it is now for other countries like Canada and the UK. I'm sure others would want the situation with the News & Politics section to be improved because the way it is now, the News & Politics section is handicapping political speech. When a YouTube user in America or "Worldwide" clicks on News & Politics, they are taken to something called "Top News" as the default. That section is often lately limited to only 1 to 3 pages of listings, well under 100 videos, while every other section gives 5 pages in order to display 100 videos. Also, we are given no information on how it is determined which videos get listed in "Top News," the default page really should be "Most Viewed" so people can know that what gets listed prominently in News & Politics is determined fairly. Could you please give American users the same opportunity to see the 100 most viewed videos easily as users in Canada and the UK can? We here on YouTube certainly don't deserve to be subjected to the same bad habits of marginalization and narrowing of political discourse which permeate other American media outlets. Let's allow Americans the same degree of political discourse here on YouTube as other YouTube users are getting now in Canada and the UK. What we are asking is that the default page for News & Politics be the "Most Viewed" the same way it is now for people in Canada and the UK and other countries. That means at least 100 videos (it should be even more) in the default category of "Most Viewed" and without the content being marginalized down the page by "Top Headlines" and "News Near You." And please don't change the other countries into the poor way it is now for "Worldwide," the point is "Top News" is not a good default page. Also, a user has to scroll down to see the top videos listed and this bad layout undermines the exposure of the ad on that page too! (I only see half of the ad without scrolling.) That would at least bring it to the same level of fairness which users in other countries are getting now.
I suggest that all categories be expanded to at least 1000 videos and this change would be beneficial to YouTube, it would make for more page views - more ad exposure for YouTube. This would be a major improvement and I am sure it will increase ad revenue for YouTube.

Strategy to Protect our Rights
The establishment of a representative media with a representative press is arguably the most important strategy to protect our rights. The way things are now, our rights are constantly being trampled and we are paying an enormous cost. I think a good plan of action is to boost this platform, what I call "Representative Press" (the YouTube Channel, the blog, website etc.), because the more people that see these ideas, the more we have moved closer to our goal. People need to hear about how things could be better if we just work together to establish a system which will be beneficial to us all. Part of the mission is to point out how propaganda is used to undermine attempts to keep powerful interests in check.

Nader makes a good case for it, pointing out that a transaction tax "would certainly raise enough to make the Wall Street crooks and gamblers pay for their own Washington bailout." Also, I support a tax on currency trades across borders. "Called the Tobin Tax after its originator, the late James Tobin, a Nobel laureate economist at Yale University, 10 to 25 cents per hundred dollars of the huge amounts of dollars traded each day across borders would produce from $100 to $300 billion per year."

Here is ANOTHER example of the risk we are put at because of supporting Israel. Luckily the attack failed because the bombs failed to explode. Notice that the media doesn't make it clear what the motive is. They mention things that if you already understood the background, you could get his motive but they don't make it clear:

Israel discriminates against Israeli citizens who are not members of the privileged religion and it brutalizes and kills (see these 4 posts for examples:
Below is part of Jennifer Loewenstein's answer to a question in which the interviewer, Podur, mentions that Israel is hailed as 'the only democracy in the middle east.'
"Whenever I hear the statement that Israel is 'the only democracy in the Middle East' I marvel yet again at the power of mythology and miseducation ... Israel is, by definition, a Jewish State. As such, it cannot be simultaneously democratic. It is not a state "ruled by the people" since one fifth of its population is not Jewish and therefore prevented by law from acquiring full citizenship. There is the additional fact that Israel rules over four million Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and annexed East Jerusalem. That these people are denied even the superficial vestiges of democratic government is undeniable.

They are denied key benefits, such as a "retirement" equivalent because they do not serve in the country's military services --indeed are prevented from doing so.
Social and economic discrimination is, of course, anti-democratic, but is in one respect the least of the problems. We know from our own history how Black Americans were --and to a great extent are-- treated, not to mention other ethnic, religious, and political groups within our society. The fact is though, that there are and were mechanisms for internal change. Civil Disobedience is possible in Israel, to an extent. An Affirmative-Action-type program also exists in Israel for Arab Israelis, and yet, as long as the state remains "Jewish" the successes of such a program will be limited. What will happen when, as current demographic trends suggest, the Arab population --not only in Israel but in the Occupied Territories-- begins to outnumber the Jewish population? If the prevailing Israeli state ideology continues, the consequences for Arab Israelis and Palestinians of this natural population shift could be catastrophic. Some might say that such a comment is alarmist; those familiar with current and long-term policies both in the Territories and within Israel understand too well that programs such as "Transfer" in which the Arab populations are forcibly expelled from the region altogether are neither extreme nor unrealizable.
The idea of turning Israel into a single, binational, democratic state has been virtually abandoned by everyone. In part this is because of the unwillingness to accept a truly democratic state, and in part this is because of the unwillingness to accept a secular state. Israel, as has already been noted, is a Jewish state. For some, this is still at least partly a religious term. For most, however, it is an ethnic-ideological term precluding the admission of a Palestinian "co-culture" and, more importantly, of joint Jewish-Palestinian rule.

He is talking about a regime change towards democracy, he is not talking about bombing. The example of the Soviet Union makes clear what he has been saying all along.

Hamas is in agreement with basically the rest of world
The United States and Israel have been rejecting the two-state settlement solution, a solution to the peace process which has been agreed to by basically the whole world. Unlike the United States and Israel, Hamas is in agreement with basically the rest of world in calling for this two-state settlement solution and Hamas has done so publicly, repeatedly, and explicitly. This fact is omitted by Obama and other politicians, a fact Chomsky points out:

The Youtuber going by the name "israelfnp" posts on my channel page complaining, "I see you know plenty about individual Zionist alleged actions against the Arabs who had declared war on the Jews since 1922 and before, RP. But the question is, do you give a rat's ass about any of the atrocities the Arabs committed to innocent Jews? No? Okay then."

I reply:

MANY TIMES, comments I post on my channel page disappear. Here is another one that I tried to repost (the original did stay but I reposted it because "Israelfnp" is playing a game pretending that I don't respond to him) Here is my response:

"Biases"? The Real Issue is: Is It Accurate or Not?
Janprops, you complained about me citing Richard Falk, United Nations special rapporteur for human rights in the Occupied Territories, arguing that, "biases can steer even the most genius people into the hole of stupidity." As Falk says in the video I posted, 
"the real issue is: is what I've said in the reports and what I've written true or not, is it accurate or not?" And it is true, mainstream media has apparently mislead you by not presenting the facts. Is that what the problem is? Are you so unfamiliar with these things that you think people who simply state these facts must "blindly hate Israel?" I think you're too eager to dismiss what you don't want to hear that you claim people have "biases" when they report on what Israel is doing, about the ongoing cruelty and unlawfulness of the Gaza blockade imposed by Israel. Falk, who is Jewish, explained that, "such a policy of collective punishment, initiated by Israel to punish Gazans for political developments within the Gaza strip, constitutes a continuing flagrant and massive violation of international humanitarian law as laid down in Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Convention."
I thought a previous post made it clear that the media is not telling you the whole story. See how Israel mistreated Falk. Notice how mainstream media was unwilling to report what Israel did to Falk? Why didn't they interview him? And it was Israel which broke the cease-fire, why is nearly all mainstream media not making that clear? (CNN's Rick Sanchez mentioned it yet the media trend is still to play the game that it wasn't Israel who broke the ceasefire, even on CNN they still play that game!)
Stephen Shalom has written a good article which answers many questions (over 30 questions) about what Israel is doing to Gaza. You questioned if Israel can still be considered an occupying power in Gaza, Shalom answers this in question 3, "Hasn't Israel withdrawn from Gaza, thereby ending its occupation?":

Why did Obama feel the need to appease hard core Zionists at AIPAC?
Why did Obama feel the need to appease hard core Zionists at AIPAC by making such a hawkish declaration about Jerusalem? Did Obama write that part of his speech himself? And if not, who did?* SEE UPDATE
Obama was so eager to please AIPAC that he said, "Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided" but the next day he backed away from his hard core Zionist statement having a campaign adviser clarify his position.
The Jerusalem Post pointed out that Obama had "staked out some hawkish positions, declaring that 'Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided' ... to rousing applause from the 7,000-plus attendees at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee policy conference."
The day after making that outrageous declaration at the AIPAC meeting, Obama backed away from it. The Jerusalem Post reported on how top Zionists were pleased with Obama's declaration at the AIPAC meeting and didn't like him backing away from it, "Morton Klein, president of the Zionist Organization of America and another Jewish activist who had originally lauded Obama's statement, now called the candidate's words 'troubling.'"
"Many on the right of the political spectrum among America's Jews welcomed Obama's remarks at AIPAC, but the clarification of his position left several cold."
What they didn't like is the Obama campaign now saying he wouldn't rule out "the city also serving as the capital of a Palestinian state or Palestinian sovereignty over Arab neighborhoods."

We Jews in the international community call upon Israeli soldiers to raise the Black Flag of Illegality over the operations against the people of Gaza.
We refuse to remain silent while Israeli leaders force Israeli soldiers to commit war crimes: crimes against humanity for which they will one day be called to account. Israeli soldiers of conscience can, and must, stop this dangerous, illegal, and immoral war.
This criminal activity does nothing to advance the health and welfare of Jews. Rather, from Sderot to Sydney, from Ashkelon to Amsterdam, we will all benefit when there is justice for Palestinians.

Hundreds more people?
In a comment to my video Israel Attacks Gaza, Silence from Mainstream Media about Israeli Violations of International Law, a YouTuber called You4test posted this in a comment, "how many israelis have been dead by the so-called hamas rocket attacks? only 6 israeli died? how about palestinian "550+". Clearly proves who is the victim of war. Even the CNN and C-Span exposed Israel's crimes." Replying to You4test, aricane54 argues, "first of all, wow you couldnt be less informed. Your looking at how many have died by rockets in israel SINCE this war began. Hundreds more people have died by hamas rockets since 2006, way before this war began."
In response to aricane54's erroneous argument I wrote, "aricane54, YOU ARE SERIOUSLY MISINFORMED! "hundreds of people" have NOT died by Hamas rockets since 2006! NOT EVEN CLOSE!
Here's the facts: Up until Israel's current attack of Dec. 27th, rocket and mortar attacks since late 2005 have killed 10 Israelis. During the 6 month truce, no Israelis were killed. After the Israeli attacks were launched on Dec. 27th, 4 have been killed.

Here's the facts: Up until Israel's current attack of Dec. 27th, rocket and mortar attacks since late 2005 have killed 10 Israelis. During the 6 month truce, no Israelis were killed. After the Israeli attacks were launched on Dec. 27th, 4 have been killed.

I replied that, "I write that because that is the statistic which FAIR uses and they are quoting theisraelproject. Now PLEASE stop for a minute and think about how distorted a view the media has given you of the situation with Israel and Gaza. NYT not fair and balanced
Jonathan Schwarz makes the point that the New York Times is not fair and balanced when it comes to reporting on Israel and Gaza. Schwarz gives an example of how a slideshow of Israel/Palestine pictures on the NYT website misrepresents what is going on. He notes that, "During the current conflict, the ratio of dead Palestinians to dead Israelis is about 100-1." (Yet you wouldn't get that impression from the NYT slideshow, the NYT is presenting an extremely distorted picture of what Israel is doing.)
Commenting on Schwarz's blog entry, someone called "Fritz" tries to make excuses for the NYT's bias: "Maybe someone at the NY Times remembers the photos of Palestinian celebrations on 9/11."
And of course no one remembers photos of Israelis celebrating the 9/11 attacks right here in America because the media didn't publish them. A witness in New Jersey said she saw 5 Israelis (Sivan Kurzberg, Paul Kurzberg, Yaron Shmuel, Oded Ellner and Omer Marmari) taking video or photos of themselves smiling with the World Trade Center burning in the background. These men were arrested and their cameras were seized. I have seen videos and pictures seized by police shown on TV before, why not in this case? One of the photographs developed by the FBI showed Sivan Kurzberg holding a lit lighter in the foreground, with the smoldering wreckage in the background, said Steven Noah Gordon, a lawyer for the five Israelis. Why didn't the media want to show the American public the images of Israelis celebrating RIGHT HERE AMONG US? Also, why did mainstream media keep silent about it?
It took months before it was even mentioned on mainstream TV and when it finally was mentioned, the pictures of the Israelis were still not shown. When it was mentioned, it was in the context of explaining it away, they broadcast their lawyer's excuse that it was simply immaturity! No such explanation was given for the Palestinians who were for the most part literally immature because they were actually children.
The Israelis were adult men here in our country. The mainstream media suppressed this story. Six months later ABC mentions it in an attempt to explain it away. The media reported the excuse given by the Israeli's lawyers which was to say it was simply immaturity! "... no one has been able to find a good explanation for why they may have been smiling with the towers of the World Trade Center burning in the background. Both the lawyers for the young men and the Israeli Embassy chalk it up to immature conduct."
A woman who watched the Israelis celebrating through binoculars said to ABC News that the men were taking video or photos of themselves with the World Trade Center burning in the background. What struck Maria were the expressions on the men's faces. "They were like happy, you know … They didn't look shocked to me. I thought it was very strange," she said.
And besides all that, Fritz's excuse does not justify the NYT bias which, as Schwarz points out, has been going on for forty years.

Solutions? This is something that could really help the "peace process" in the Middle East
Want to REALLY help the "peace process" achieve real peace AND justice? How about respecting the Right of Return like Israel promised to do as a condition of being admitted into the UN? (It would definitely remove the anger from millions and remove any motivation for violence from countless people.) Israel was accepted into the United Nations on condition that it accept the Right of Return of the Palestinian refugees. Admission of Israel to membership in the United Nations (General Assembly Resolution 273 of May 11, 1949 ) requires Israel to comply with General Assembly Resolution 194 of December 11, 1948 and Israel stated it agreed to comply with this resolution. But of course they immediately refused because the racist agenda of the Zionists is to remove as many non-Jews as possible.

I was required to put all my bags and cell phone in a room and taken to a locked tiny room that smelled of urine and filth. It contained five other detainees and was an unwelcome invitation to claustrophobia. I spent the next 15 hours so confined, which amounted to a cram course on the miseries of prison life, including dirty sheets, inedible food and lights that were too bright or darkness controlled from the guard office."- My expulsion from Israel by Richard Falk

Israel Attacks Gaza Again
Even before Israel began the huge bombing attacks on Gaza starting 12/27/08, Israel had already been committing crimes against the people of Gaza. Richard Falk, UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories
occupied since 1967, issued a statement on 12/9/08 about the ongoing cruelty and unlawfulness of the Gaza blockade imposed by Israel. Falk, who is Jewish, explained that, "such a policy of collective punishment, initiated by Israel to punish Gazans for political developments within the Gaza strip, constitutes a continuing flagrant and massive violation of international humanitarian law as laid down in Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Convention."
Chris Hedges points out what Israel has been doing to Gaza, things which are often either not reported or under reported by mainstream media, "the point of this Israeli siege, ostensibly, is to break Hamas, the radical Islamic group that was elected to power in 2007. But Hamas has repeatedly proposed long-term truces with Israel and offered to negotiate a permanent truce. During the last cease-fire, established through Egyptian intermediaries in July, Hamas upheld the truce although Israel refused to ease the blockade. It was Israel* that, on Nov. 4, initiated an armed attack that violated the truce and killed six Palestinians. It was only then that Hamas resumed firing rockets at Israel. Palestinians have launched more than 200 rockets on Israel since the latest round of violence began. 9/11 Commissioners intentionally downplayed and obscured the motives for the attacks. So much so that Seth can read an excerpt from the report quoted in this post: "Why Do They Hate Us?" by Jonathan Schwarz on his blog A Tiny Revolution and be able to downplay the Israel motive. The fact is that part of the 9/11 report is close to Zelikow's testimony to the commission but omits a key sentence which Zelikow said in his testimony about bin Laden which makes a clear point: "The al-Qeada leader wanted to punish the United States for supporting Israel."
What a devious game the authors of the 9/11 Commission Report played, it is beyond the pale for them to obscure the main motive. In addition to omitting that key sentence, the 9/11 Report omitted key testimony from FBI Special Agent James Fitzgerald in response to Lee Hamilton's question, "what motivated them to do it?" Fitzgerald answered, "I believe they feel a sense of outrage against the United States. They identify with the Palestinian problem, they identify with people who oppose repressive regimes and I believe they tend to focus their anger on the United States." This testimony was kept out of the 9/11 Commission Report and no recommendation was given to address the main motive for the 9/11 attacks. When they did make mention of what they tried so hard to downplay, the authors had the audacity to use these weasel words, "American policy regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and American actions in Iraq are dominant staples of popular commentary." What a devious game the authors of the 9/11 Commission Report played, it is beyond the pale for them to obscure the main motive. In addition to omitting that key sentence, the 9/11 Report omitted key testimony from FBI Special Agent James Fitzgerald in response to Lee Hamilton's question, "what motivated them to do it?" Fitzgerald answered, "I believe they feel a sense of outrage against the United States. They identify with the Palestinian problem, they identify with people who oppose repressive regimes and I believe they tend to focus their anger on the United States." This testimony was kept out of the 9/11 Commission Report and no recommendation was given to address the main motive for the 9/11 attacks. knightmascara, I've never said that so how could I "keep screaming it"?The above is my reply to a nasty commenter calling themselves "knightmascara" on YouTube who is trying to slander me. (I tried several times to post this reply and it kept not working so that is why I am posting it here.) Knightmascara's first comment was "yawn" so it is not unexpected for them to move on to BS like, "it's all the fault of the Jews! Keep screaming it."
Why did you suddenly start with this "Jew hater" crap? You felt so threatened by finding out how much deception there is in the media that you feel compelled to attack me, someone who is simply laying out the facts? Where did you get this "Jew hater" BS? Do you realize how ignorant you sound? think you can discipline your mind and try to quote something I've said which backs up your accusation? You can't.
As I point out in a previous comment, knightmascara doesn't understand basics and when exposed to the facts he or she lashes out with all the standard pathetic slanders they can think of. Knightmascara doesn't even know the basics about freedom. They poison public discourse with vulgar attempts to create a false moral high ground for themselves. I ask, "damn, are you really so threatened by the free exchange of ideas that you must resort to these underhanded tactics?"

In order to get a clear profile picture, I've made this video consisting of one still frame. I've slightly altered the ends of the ribbon so it'll look when it is used as the profile picture. The problem is there's an apparent glitch which acts like I've selected "Always use my latest uploaded video still" for my profile picture when I haven't. And when I try to upload an image for the profile picture, the picture ends up looking blurry. So I need a thumbnail from a video and youtube now only lets you select a thumbnail from the last 9 videos you have uploaded. So in order to deal with this situation, I'm using one still frame for this whole video. And the reason is thumbnails are now selected algorithmically so I couldn't be sure I would get this image as the thumbnail unless I put it in ever frame of this video.

The Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, Richard Falk, issued the following statement:
GENEVA -- In recent days the desperate plight of the civilian population of Gaza has been acknowledged by such respected international figures as the Secretary General of the United Nations, the President of the General Assembly, and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Last week, Karen AbyZayd, who heads the UN relief effort in Gaza, offered first-hand confirmation of the desperate urgency and unacceptable conditions facing the civilian population of Gaza. Although many leaders have commented on the cruelty and unlawfulness of the Gaza blockade imposed by Israel, such a flurry of denunciations by normally cautious UN officials has not occurred on a global level since the heyday of South African apartheid.
And still Israel maintains its Gaza siege in its full fury, allowing only barely enough food and fuel to enter to stave off mass famine and disease. Such a policy of collective punishment, initiated by Israel to punish Gazans for political developments within the Gaza strip, constitutes a continuing flagrant and massive violation of international humanitarian law as laid down in Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Convention.
It is long past the time when talk suffices. As AbuZayd has written, "the chasm between word and deed" with respect to upholding human rights in occupied Palestine creates a situation where "radicalism and extremism easily take root." The UN is obligated to respond under these conditions. Some governments of the world are complicit by continuing their support politically and economically for Israel's punitive approach.
Protective action must be taken immediately to offset the persisting and wide-ranging violations of the fundamental human right to life, and in view of the emergency situation that is producing a humanitarian catastrophe that is unfolding day by day. However difficult politically, it is time to act. At the very least, an urgent effort should be made at the United Nations to implement the agreed norm of a 'responsibility to protect' a civilian population being collectively punished by policies that amount to a Crime Against Humanity.
In a similar vein, it would seem mandatory for the International Criminal Court to investigate the situation, and determine whether the Israeli civilian leaders and military commanders responsible for the Gaza siege should be indicted and prosecuted for violations of international criminal law. As AbuZayd has declared, "This is a humanitarian crisis deliberately imposed by political actors."
It should be noted that the situation worsened in recent days due to the breakdown of a truce between Hamas and Israel that had been observed for several months by both sides. The truce was maintained by Hamas despite the failure of Israel to fulfill its obligation under the agreement to improve the living conditions of the people of Gaza.
The recent upsurge of violence occurred after an Israeli incursion that killed several alleged Palestinian militants within Gaza. It is a criminal violation of international law for elements of Hamas or anyone else to fire rockets at Israeli towns regardless of provocation, but such Palestinian behavior does not legalize Israel's imposition of a collective punishment of a life- and health-threatening character on the people of Gaza, and should not distract the UN or international society from discharging their fundamental moral and legal duty to render protection to the Palestinian people.
